The Engineering Certificate Program (ECP) is a comprehensive program that aims to equip students with practical skills necessary to excel in various engineering fields. Through a balanced emphasis on academic excellence in science, mathematics, and technology courses, students can better apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. The program offers opportunities for students to participate in robotics, e-car, precision machining, and control systems clubs and competitions to further enhance their skills. With a focus on practical experience, the ECP prepares students for success in the competitive engineering industry.
The Engineering Certificate Program (ECP) was initiated by a group of students who recognized the value of their hands-on experiences in manufacturing and computer engineering courses, as well as their participation in clubs like First Robotics and the Electronic Race Car. They believed that these unique opportunities should be acknowledged and promoted as significant learning opportunities for students pursuing an Engineering pathway. With the support of teachers and administrators, the program was developed and launched in the 2018-2019 academic year, providing a practical and innovative learning experience for aspiring engineers.
BENEFITS OF THE ECP
The Engineering Certificate Program recognizes and honors students who demonstrate: a commitment to their learning active engagement in the life of the school furthering their learning a strong sense of citizenship, collaboration, and innovation. Students will benefit from developing theoretical and technical competencies through authentic learning experiences. Some of the benefits include: Learning practical technical skills Applying theory from the maths and sciences to real world situations Increasing confidence in science and mathematics Developing leadership and team skills Improving communication skills Enhancing innovative and creative thought Working through an entire design process Connecting with College and University faculty Participating in competitions Opportunity for specialized co-op placements
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ECP
ECP SCHOLARSHIP
- Evidence of active participation in at least one of the ECP clubs, such as the E-Car club, Robotics club, or Skills Canada events
- Demonstrated commitment to the Catholic learner characteristics, such as integrity, critical thinking, and academic excellence (e.g., grades, attendance, behavior)
- A minimum combined average of 85% in the three required courses
By awarding the ECP Scholarship, we hope to support and encourage talented young engineers who are dedicated to making a positive impact on the world through their innovative ideas and technical skills.
